Premier Danielle Smith ran on our sovereignty platform - and won - securing a government that is committed to standing up for Alberta.
Her first act as Premier was introducing the Sovereignty Act that we created, and the government has used the Act several times in the last few years.
And just this weekend, the Premier announced that another new Sovereignty Act motion is coming soon, which will protect Albertans from federal threats to firearms ownership.
Progress has been steady, but progress hasn’t come without challenges either.
Critical laws like Bill C-69, the West Coast Tanker Ban, the Clean Electricity Regulations, and the industrial carbon tax still hold back our energy industry.
But a recent Memorandum of Understanding with Ottawa has provided new hope in this area too, ensuring Alberta’s energy future isn’t left at the mercy of federal roadblocks.
Of course, the new Memorandum of Understanding isn't perfect - it still leaves Alberta vulnerable and under federal control in many other areas.
Clearly, our work is far from done.
